Springsteen to play the Super Bowl?

I often wondered when Springsteen's name would come up for the halftime show at the Super Bowl...actually, I'm sure it comes up every year but for some reason they only manage to get manly artists like Prince, Boys to Men and Janet Jackson to play -- nothing stirs up the testosterone like a nice falsetto of a tribute song to your mother by Boyz2Men.

I always thought that Springsteen was above this and I still do believe it and would hope that he NEVER ever appear at a Super Bowl (nor American Idol or release a custom Ipod for that matter).

Anyway, according to Variety.com, the organizers have started their quest for the ultimate halftime show a full 11 months before the next event. All I can hope is that Norah Jones says yes first and Springsteen's dignity is preserved.
