New album(s) in the works?

Thanks to Robbie M --- a piece of the magical travelling Rob's --- for alerting me of this:

He's been in the studio with E Street, along with Brendan O'Brien, who manned the boards for both Rising and Magic. The singer also is "recording on my own, for an acoustic record. I work on a lot of projects at once." But he acknowledges that he was excited by the pop-savvy songwriting and lustrous production that distinguished the tunes on Magic.

We've heard rumors that he will be coming out with another album this year, could there be one E Street album AND another acoustic one? One can only dream baby dream!

Springsteen stadium tour in summer '08?

According to a "local radio station" in New York, Springsteen is slated to do the 10-day NJ homestand next summer.

Springsteen's rumored tour dates are here...

So a friend of a friend's uncle's best friend sent this to me yesterday. Take it for what it is, a rumor but the dates we've been hearing seem to jive with this (Oakland and St Paul for sure).

Springsteen on Leno June 20?

Jesse Malin is the musical guest on Leno tomorrow night...Will Springsteen make an appearance? Would be nice but I doubt he'd make the trip from the east coast to the west coast for that...Or would he?

Either way, Malin is worth the lost sleep.

When K2 Speaks...we all listen

K2 posted a little note on Greasylake today. It went something like this:

Tour should defintely start in fall, most probably October - dates/arenas still being worked out.

There will be, eventually, lots of European dates.

Looking for big marketing cross-over type vehicles/opportunities to catch younger/new listeners.

Some (many?) of the new songs, according to Clarence, have a Sly and the Family Stone kinda feel.

Clarence, and his hips, are doing well. He's down to a 'playing weight' of about 295 lbs. and totally looking forward to the tour.

This will be, without doubt, the last E Street Band tour as we know it -- though they will, with their we'll-rip-Republicans-and-pretend-we-care-about-the-little-people-but-we-are-the-biggest-capitalists-on-the-planet practices -- not say anything about a 'final' tour until they feel they have saturated the market. Then 'the big announcement' will come, trying to play us all for fools.

Personally, I don't care how they market it, I just happen to enjoy spending about three hours (ten if you count the tailgating smile.gif ) gathering with friends and family listening to the best live rock 'n roll experience available. I know many of you feel the same way.

Last tour? Say it ain't so!

Springsteen news from K2

A quick update along with some good news and bad news. The good news from the studio is that a number of new songs have been completed for the new CD/Album. All of the songs were initially recorded solo with different members from the ESB making studio appearances to lay down certain tracks. As a result, different versions of SOME of the songs have been completed. Some of the songs with members of the band are true rockers while others, to include the ones recorded solo or with Bruce playing different instruments, mirror some of the slower songs from The Rising. All-in-all the next month or so will focus on the selection of "the right" version of the songs to be included on the album. Although not all the members of the ESB will have participated in the recording of this album, as of this date, a number of songs on this upcoming CD/Album lend themselves to the inclusion of the full band. Like other recording sessions and with increasing frequency, Bruce is recording a number of these songs playing all of the instruments. Technology, confidence in playing a variety of instruments, and a home studio have had a significant on recording overall and this CD/Album in particular. With the business side of finalizing the album to take the next couple of months (photography, production, distribution schedule etc.) look for the release to happen not until September since July is usually the vacation month. At this time, the recording has been given a project name, but the title of the CD/Album has yet to be decided. Now the bad news, with the pace of the recording, the tour will take place. At this time the month of September is shaping up as the rehearsal month with October being the tentative start date. Also, there are lots of discussion about the tour opening in Europe, but that is tentative at this time. Bottom line is that a new album and tour, as of right now, will most likely be here before the leaves fall.

Also, with the release of the new DVD and the slotted release of this new CD/Album, the other projects pertaining to older material have been put on the back burner.

At least we have some news!

Springsteen to play Montreal?

Is this confirmation of an upcoming tour?

The Montreal Gazette reports:

Rumours of a possible Bruce Springsteen appearance at the Bell Centre in the fall are, well, just rumours so far.
"We're working on it," said Nick Farkas, director of talent booking for Gillett Entertainment Group. "We don't know if it will happen. We have no clue. We're just looking at dates."
Those dates would be in October, Farkas said. Gillett has been in negotiations with Springsteen's people, but nothing has been confirmed. Until further notice, everyone is waiting for word from The Boss.

Hmmm. Fits in with the timelines for all the other rumors that says a later summer/early fall release/tour.

Little Steven: "We gotta make a record"

Squelching rumors that Springsteen and his E Street entourage are actually in studio recording their new record, Little Steven makes it very obvious he is waiting on The man just as much as we are:

"We gotta make a record, which could happen soon," he tells Spinner. "I don't have any reason to say this other than my own instinct, but I just get a vibe it's going to be sooner than later it. Once that's done, we're very fast. [Bruce] literally could call me today, we could have a new album out and be on the road within three months. We tend to get better as we get older -- maybe not better looking but better with the craft."

He does say that he is waiting for Springsteen's call "any moment now."

Aren't we all?

Springsteen Album/Tour News

This taken from Stan on Greasy Lake:

"Just a little news at this time. Recording continues in Atlanta with recording to take place all week long this week. What has been recorded has been slow in coming and has featured members of the ESB, specifically Max and Nils. The foundation for each song on the new album (a lot of songs

overall) has been set and look for the finishing touches to be put on the album during April and May. Members of the ESB will then be brought together collectively to record those songs to be designated as full band songs. Suprisingly, what has been recorded has been met with satisfaction.

At this time, the tour will probably begin in late September or October.

All the other information concerning problems within the ESB, are untrue."

Sure hope it's true!

Springsteen in Atlanta with the E Street Band?

Rumors have it that Springsteen is hitting the studio with his fellow E Streeters starting tomorrow in Atlanta. This thread has some details if you can wade through it but this thread sums it up: He's going in tomorrow and the tour depends on Patti's album and availability of the band.

Springsteen "tinkering" in studio

K24434 from GreasyLake sums up the latest rumor/status of Springsteen and the ESB recording sessions:

FYI, There have been some studio sessions involving what is being characterized as "tinkering" with some new material. This is how the process normally involves. First some sessions at the home studio, then progressing to an enhanced studio, in this case in Atlanta once again, where the goal is to develop a project and a plan for the recording of the material. All of the sessions for the new material have been mainly solo base tracks. Look for the band to become more involved over the next two to three months. Also an additional project relative to the re-recording of older material continues. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this project since a lot of much older unreleased material is being grouped together and re-recorded. Although some of the material is from the Darkness/River eras, some of this older material also appears to be left overs from the TOL and early 90s. No firm plan on what will be the outcome of this. However, progression continues on a new album with the ESB as the primary goal. At this time, it also looks like the earliest time for the start of the next tour will be August 2007.

Updated: Springsteen recording in Nashville?

Here's some more fodder for the masses from Backstreets. A BTX'er, Steel Mill Retro says that they are absolutely down there recording in Nashville and that the report that Nils was working with Springsteen was in fact true but they were working on Patti's next album.

Also buried in this post is the fact that Brendan O'Brian (The Rising) will produce again and that we should expect a tour to start late spring, early summer.

According to a rumor report on the "Let it Bleed" blog (we try to check sites other than Backstreets and Greasy Lake), Springsteen and the E Street Band are in a studio in Nashville recording the next album. And they say that a summer tour is imminent.

Here's the post:

"Rumors have been circulating over the past few days that Bruce Springsteen, fresh off some recording time at his home studio with fellow E-Streeter Nils Lofgren, has spent that last couple of days recording with the E Street Band in a Nashville, TN studio. These rumors seem to strike at least some truth because of the fact that E Street drummer Max Weinberg hasn’t had much work to do (over the past week) with respect to his job with “Late Night” host Conan O’Brien (NBC). As of now, a summer tour is expected…."

Rumors abound!

Typically I don't like floating rumors about Springsteen but it seems there is something brewing down on the Springsteen farm these days.

BTX has reported sightings of Nils visiting with his fellow E-streeter at his homestead and this has led to a ton of speculation on Greasy Lake of perhaps a much-anticipated Tracks 2 (has it really been 9 years since the first? I guess the Internet and the insane amount of bootlegs available has numbed that pain), a new E Street record or even Patti's next release.

Whatever it is, the general feeling is that something is coming and that is great news for all of us. How did we all live when it was 4 years between releases?

No rumor mongering but this is too detailed to pass up

From Greasy Lake and K24434. We don't condone this stuff but we'll post it because we are desperate:

Now that the most recent 'tour' has concluded, it looks like the following is in store for the next year and beyond:

1) Beginning sometime at the beginning of 2007, look for the beginning of a new ESB record to be recorded. As has been mentioned a number of times, the amount of material that has been written over the last year or so is quite extensive. Look for a number of ESB 'worthy' songs to be the focus of the recording session. If the recording meets with satisfaction;
2) Look for a new ESB tour to begin sometime during mid to fall 2007. Although illness has been overcome and hips have been replaced, look for this to be the last ESB tour. At present, this may go for approximately 18 months, at least;
3) Look for additional recorded material/videos to come to the market at regular intervals. Having learned from the D&D video recording catasrophe of the two shows in Boston during 10/2005, which have mercifully been scrapped, the content of the SSB concerts recently taped in Ireland will result in a concert DVD and CD;
4) Work on an additional Tracks/Outtakes compilation continues. This is being treated more as a hobby than an active project, but it will see the light sometime in the future;
5) After the next and last ESB Tour, look for additional CD(s) and tour(s) with at least some members of the SSB. During this last tour, a number of songs were written which have been determined to be perfect for this latest band. It is anticipated that at least some members of this band will form a core group which will be used to record and tour in the future.

During the SSB Tour, discussions concerning "the home stretch" took off. The priority was determined to be the ESB and the hope and desire is that in the breadth of work written during the D&D tour and the latest tour, that a core group of songs for the ESB to record and tour with exists and that this will become evident during the recording sessions in January 2007. Obviously, if what comes out in the recording sessions is not met with approval, this will throw off all of these plans. To note, members of the ESB have prepared both physically and with their schedules for this last ESB Tour.

Although these are the plans at present, what is interesting is the talk and planning for after the ESB. The desire to record and tour with another band, as well as another anticipated acoustic tour, are very likely. Looks like this forum will have a lot of activity to discuss for at least the next five years. Amazing what a new recording contract will do.
